While I love a lot of the changes they made in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, the Skill Battle mode being thrown into Adventure mode really feels out of place, unbalanced, and ultimately breaks up the fun for me. In the video above, I show how you can somewhat easily break it with a bit of luck and using the right skills, but you shouldn’t need to rely on something like that to be able to make quick work of it.
Skill Battle to me feels like Connected Mode in Tetris Effect: Connected in which it’s a completely separate mode, but now we have RPG elements on top of it making some battles completely impossible no matter how good you are at the game. This means reliably completing some of these battles means having to grind to get the right stats, items, and skills to be able to beat the opponent.
I guess this is fine from a casual perspective, but as someone who is thinking about picking up the adventure mode as a speedrun, it’s going to be extremely frustrating to the point where I may not bother with doing it at all. A 100% speedrun would be fine, but since 100% and 219% are two completely different things, I would only be interested in racing to 100% completion and calling it there.
It’s still completely amusing to win a match in less than 9 seconds though.
