I made the decision earlier this week to go ahead and start the process of learning Python. The idea is to learn enough to be able to start the process of porting over a couple of my previous IRC projects to Python to create Python-based IRC bots. Once I have successfully ported over Leverbot and GameWars over to Python, I am planning to resume development of the new IRC RPG using Python instead of mIRC.
This is an effort to turn the project open-source. This would allow others to assist with the project and would make it easier for someone to take the source code and create their own game as well. It's going to be a long process, but I am making progress on the learning side of things.
Something like Leverbot should be a pretty simple endeavor since it was structured in mIRC to be easy to add items; I'll just need a way to be able to take a random line from a file and post it in the IRC channel. GameWars, on the other hand, is going to require a lot of work to make it work in Python.
